Dry van tractor and trailer transport

The dry van is the default for packaged waste moving in quantity. Enclosed, dock-height, and sized so that the limit you hit is almost always the floor rather than the ceiling.

You run out of weight before you run out of room

A trailer of drums is a weight problem, not a space problem. Full drums of aqueous or metal-bearing waste reach the legal axle limits long before the trailer is visually full, which is why an experienced loader leaves what looks like wasted space and why a plan based on how many drums fit geometrically will be wrong. Two things follow for a generator. Consolidating a shipment is worth doing, because a partly loaded trailer costs nearly what a full one does. And weight has to be estimated honestly at profile stage, since a load that has to be stripped at a weigh station is expensive in a way that nobody budgets for.

What goes this way

The streams dry van tractor/trailer handles, and what each one is under the rules — with acceptance decided by a profile rather than by a name on a drum.

  • Dock to dock

    Palletized drums

The standard volume shipment, secured and enclosed for the whole trip.

  • Palletized

    Totes and intermediate bulk containers

Where liquid volume justifies a larger container than a drum.

  • Enclosed

    Boxed and packaged waste

Lab packs, off-spec product and anything that must stay dry and out of sight.

When this is not the right route

The cases where dry van tractor/trailer is not what you want, and what to use instead.

What you get back

The records dry van tractor/trailer produces, and what each one is evidence of — because the liability for a waste stays with the generator from the moment it is created until it is destroyed.

  1. Load manifest and container count

What went on the trailer, by container, reconciled against what left your dock. On a full load that reconciliation is the check that nothing was left behind or added.

  2. Weights as received

Scale weight at the destination, which is what you are invoiced on and what your annual generation figures should agree with.

  3. Signed manifest returned

Per shipment, kept for three years.

Before you ask for a price

What generators ask about dry van tractor/trailer, answered from the rules rather than from marketing copy.

Fewer than the floor plan suggests, because weight limits bite first. The useful number comes from the density of what is in them, which is one more reason the profile matters before the truck is booked.

Where compatibility and segregation allow, and it is usually worth doing. The constraint is what may travel together, not what may be invoiced together.

Across eight Southeastern states on Greer's own permits and equipment, so one company is on the manifest between your dock and the receiving facility.

Describe the stream. We will tell you the route.

A description of the process and a rough quantity is enough to start. A Certified Hazardous Materials Manager reads every request, and sometimes the answer is a different service than the one you asked about.
